Dango Ouattara got off to a dream start with new club Brentford FC on Saturday, scoring the only goal in the Bees’ 1-0 victory over Aston Villa to kick off their 2025-26 English Premier League season on a positive note.
The Burkina Faso national team star showed persistence on his 12th minute match winner. A long ball was flicked on ahead of the attacker who beat a defender to the ball and saw his initial effort saved by Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez before finishing from the rebound.
Visitors Aston Villa dominated possession but the Brentford defense held strong to secure three points at home. Brentford appeared to double their lead just before halftime but a VAR review called the goal back when Mikkel Damsgaard was cited for a foul.
Ouattara joined from fellow Premier League side Bournemouth for a €42.8 million transfer, a move that came after it appeared that the former Lorient player was destined for a rotation role with his previous club. Brentford are next in action on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup (League Cup) where they will play away at Ouattara’s former club Bournemouth.
