Former Ghana goalkeeper, Daniel Agyei has asked for a better remuneration for players who ply their trade in the domestic premier league.

According to Agyei, the need for higher wages in the Ghana Premier League will help retain a lot of quality players who ordinarily will leave for greener pastures in countries not really noted for football.

The 2009 U-World Cup winner made the assertions in an interview with Ghana based television station, GhOne. "Ghana Premier League is sinking and is not attractive. The current salaries of players in the league are not good."

The former Liberty Professionals player emphasised that the low wages are a major challenge facing the GPL, making it difficult for players to make a living from the sport.

Agyei was the first choice goalkeeper when Ghana won the U-20 WAFU ZONE B, Africa Cup and the World Cup in Nigeria, Rwanda and Egypt respectively in 2009.

He was capped five times by the Black Stars with football played across Ghana’s, Liberty Professionals and Medeama SC, Free State Stars of South Africa, Simba of Tanzan and Ethiopian sides, Jimma Aba Jifar, Jimma Aba Buna, Sebeta City, Mekelle Enderta and Woaitta Dicha. He is currently playing for Oostzaanse Football Club in the Dutch lower league.
