Everton manager David Moyes was keen to praise Senegal international Iliman Ndiaye ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final against Morocco.

The Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium is set to host the AFCON final between Morocco and Senegal, after both teams booked their places by overcoming Nigeria and Egypt respectively in the semi-finals.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is considered a key figure for both Everton and the Senegal national team. Speaking to Liverpool Echo, Moyes said:
“We knew we were very lucky to get Iliman. We had been trying to sign him for two months, but Sheffield United were trying to loan him out to a higher level.”

He added:
“I think we signed Ndiaye on the final day of the transfer window because there were no other options, but from the moment he arrived, his performances were well above our level.”

Moyes continued:
“It was clear from the first training session. The players were extremely surprised, almost saying: ‘Oh my God, who is this kid?’”

He concluded:
“That was purely on a technical level, but what impressed the team and myself personally over the following weeks was his mentality and willingness to work hard. He accepted the situation with a great attitude, and there was no showboating or arrogance in his behavior.”

Iliman Ndiaye has featured in five matches in the current Africa Cup of Nations, scoring one goal, and is close to taking part in the final against Morocco.
