Nigeria women’s national team defender Tosin Demehin has ruled out Zambia being a threat when the two sides face off in Friday's quarterfinal of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.

Zambia reached the last eight of the tournament after finishing second in Group A with seven points while Nigeria, who are the record champions of the WAFCON, finished top in Group B with seven points.

“We have a mission, and the mission is for us to take the trophy to Nigeria for the tenth time. And we are working towards the mission,” Demehin, who plays for Galatasaray S.K. in Turkey, told the Super Falcons Show as quoted by Bola News. “So I believe Zambia is not a threat to us. We know what brought us here. We have our goals, and we are good to go.

“The deciding factor in the quarter-final will be the attack delivering early goals because I know if we can deliver an early goal, it’s really a plus as a team. From my perspective, I will say what makes the Nigerian defence solid is the teamwork, the unity, and the love amongst us, which is what has been helping us in the defensive line.”

The last time Nigeria and Zambia faced off in the WAFCON was at the 2022 edition, where the Copper Queens claimed a 1-0 victory in the bronze medal playoff.

However, Nigeria hold a good record against Zambia, having beaten them 6-0 in 2014 and 4-0 in 2018 in the same competition.
