Nigeria striker Cyriel Dessers' brace propelled Rangers to a second consecutive home victory on their final appearance at Ibrox in the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Dundee United looked to have taken a step closer to sealing a place in Europe when Sam Cleall-Harding latched onto Ryan Strain's corner kick to head in the 20th-minute opener.
And it seemed that Rangers' struggles were returning, having just ended a seven-game winless run with a victory against Aberdeen.
However, Dessers had something to say. It took him just five minutes to connect with Jefté's wonderful cross and plant a header past Dave Richards, who had started ahead of Jack Walton.
In the second half, Mohamed Diomande went down under Will Ferry's challenge inside the penalty box, and the Nigerian striker calmly slotted home the resulting spot kick to give Rangers the lead and get his 50th goal for the club.
It was Rangers with the final laugh as Václav Cerny's pass was met with Nicolas Raskin's right-footed strike from the right side of the box, high down the middle of the goal.
Speaking after the game, the 30-year-old Nigerian acknowledged that patience was key in their total dominance of the second half.
"You can see in these games that the players are getting more tired, and spaces are getting bigger. So you need to keep patience and the quality high, and we did that. And if you score two goals, then you have total control of the game."
He also added that his milestone with the club meant so much to him in his footballing journey.
"It's a beautiful moment for me, my 50th goal, to score it here at Ibrox, that's something I'm very proud of. It's a big milestone in my career."
Dessers has scored 28 goals in all competitions for Rangers this season (2024-2025), netting 17 goals in 33 league matches in the Scottish Premiership.
He has scored four goals in the Scottish League Cup, while finding the back of the net three times in the Scottish Cup, as well as in the UEFA Europa League, and he also registered a goal in UEFA Champions League qualifying.
