Details emerge on Chiefs star Maart’s substantial transfer fee to SV Ried

Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart is on the cusp of joining Austrian top-flight side SV Ried, with the transfer fee reportedly set at R15 million.

This move was confirmed by SV Ried’s CEO, Wolfgang Fiala, on Wednesday, and will bring an end to Maart’s three-year spell with the Soweto giants.

Maart has remained in South Africa, absent from the Chiefs’ pre-season camp in the Netherlands, as he prepares for his impending move to Austria.

SV Ried, who also have former Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio Van Wyk in their ranks, view Maart as a key reinforcement following their promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga.

“Yes, it looks good. We just need to finalise a few details, which we can hopefully sort out quickly,” Fiala told OÖNachrichten, indicating the deal is in its final stages. Upon arrival in Austria, Maart will travel on a tourism visa before applying for a “red-white-red” card, which is essential for professional footballers in the country.

According to reports, Chiefs are making “good business” with Maart’s transfer, following similar profitable moves for players like Teenage Hadebe, Siyabonga Ngezana, and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.

Maart’s departure comes after a significant chapter with Chiefs, where he made 95 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists.

He will be fondly remembered by Amakhosi fans for his winning goal against Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final, which ended the club’s decade-long trophy drought.
