Dieumerci Mbokani: Ex-attacker charges DR Congo ahead of World Cup playoffs

Former DR Congo attacker Dieumerci Mbokani has charged the national team ahead of their decisive clash against Jamaica in the final FIFA World Cup playoffs.

The Leopards will square off against the Reggae Boys in the final inter-confederation playoffs pathway for one of Africa’s slot at the Mundial in Canada, USA and Mexico.

The decisive clash comes up at the Akron Stadium in Mexico and Mbokani, 40, doesn’t want any letup against Jamaica.

The 49-time capped former Leopard advises the team to bring a lot of intensity from the kickoff and seal it all with offensive efficiency.

DR Congo eliminated Nigeria in playoffs

“It was our goal back then, but we hadn’t succeeded… For this Tuesday, we need a win. We’ve been seeking a World Cup qualification for many long years.

“May our players stay focused; all Congolese are behind them.

“There’s just one match left; we can’t rely on calculations anymore. We have to attack them (Jamaica). I know a few Jamaican players I crossed paths with in England.

“We need to put a lot of pressure in this match to score as quickly as possible. Not 1 goal, but 2,” he declared on Afriradio.

DR Congo came second in Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with 22 points, two behind African champions Senegal.

The two time African champions then eliminated Nigeria 4-2 on penalty shootouts during the CAF playoffs in Morocco to book a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs pathway.

A qualification for the World Cup will end a 56-year absence after becoming the first Sub-Saharan African country to qualify for the tournament in 1974 as Zaire.
