Pantev given extra role at Simba SC – Ally

Simba SC Media and Communication Manager Ahmed Ally has revealed new coach Dimitar Pantev will lead a broader and more strategic role within the club’s football operations.

Speaking after unveiling the Bulgarian coach, to replace the departed Fadlu Davids, Ally said apart from sitting on the touchline, Pantev, who was formerly with Botswana Premier League champions Gaborone United, will have his responsibilities extended beyond the pitch.

Pantev will oversee development and performance

“Coach Pantev will not only lead from the touchline but will also oversee all aspects of team development and performance,” said Ally as quoted by Daily News. “Tanzanian football have been limited to managing matches and training sessions. However, under this new structure, Pantev’s responsibilities extend beyond the pitch.”

Ally added: “He will supervise all areas of the team including the player manager, kit manager, medical staff and technical bench. He will also have a say in transfer matters and long-term squad planning.”

Speaking for the first time, the 49-year-old stressed the importance of efficient preparation and familiarity with the squad.

“This is a big challenge for me, and Simba is a big team, and we must do well in all competitions, I know it won’t be easy, but it is a good challenge to walk the journey together and make sure Simba is the best club in Tanzania and Africa,” Pantev told Pan-Africa Football.

“We don’t have time now, we only have 10 days before we play our next CAF Champions League game, so I want to take this chance to try and help the team, and I am hoping it will not take me a lot of time to know, and understand my players, but I am sure everything will be perfect in a short term period.”

His first task will be the Champions League second preliminary round clash against Nsingizini Hotspurs of Eswatini. Simba will play away in the first leg on October 17 before hosting them in Tanzania for the return leg on October 24.
