RB Leipzig’s Diomande delighted after historic hat-trick

RB Leipzig and Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande has reacted to his first-ever Bundesliga hat-trick.

The 19-year-old entered the record books as he became the second-youngest player to score a hat-trick in the German top flight when high-flying Leipzig thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 6–0.

Diomande scored a second-half hat-trick within 18 minutes against Frankfurt. He said he is very pleased with the goals. “I feel great and am very happy with the game tonight. To score three goals is a very special moment in my career. I am happy for myself, but also for the team.”

The young Ivorian is settling well in the Bundesliga, as he has bagged six goals in 13 league games so far this season. He credited the lessons learned from his coach (Ole Werner) and teammates.

“I listen to the head coach, the team and my teammates. They help me a lot, which is why I am able to play well. I am still young and can learn a lot from them, which is what has made it possible for me to settle in so quickly in the Bundesliga.”

Diomande was one of the nominees for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award for November. He lost the accolade to Bayer Leverkusen and Algeria star Ibrahim Maza.
