Divine Mukasa, Manchester City’s rising star with Ugandan roots, has capped a phenomenal season by winning the Players’ Player of the Season award at the club’s annual academy gala, a nod to both his talent and his growing influence on and off the pitch.
At just 17 years old, the attacking midfielder lit up the U18 Premier League with a staggering 16 goals and 15 assists in only 20 appearances. His sharp vision, composure under pressure, and consistent brilliance made him one of the standout performers of the campaign.
Mukasa’s journey began at the prestigious West Ham United academy, where he honed his skills before making the switch to Manchester City in 2023. Since then, he has grown into a central figure for City’s youth setup, admired for both his technical prowess and maturity beyond his years.
Born in England to a Ugandan father, Mukasa is eligible to represent either nation. While he has already donned the England shirt at youth level, his spectacular performances have sparked interest back in Uganda, where fans are closely tracking his development, hopeful that he might one day wear the Cranes jersey.
Although a future with England’s senior team seems likely, the possibility of switching allegiance remains. If opportunities at the highest level for England don’t come to fruition, Mukasa could opt to represent Uganda, offering a huge boost to East African football.
His latest award, voted by his teammates, is a strong endorsement of his leadership and camaraderie as well as his footballing ability.
