Djamel Belmadi is the new head coach of Al Duhail. The Qatar Stars League outfit has hired the Algerian coach for the third time following two previous stints at the club.
Belmadi was unemployed after leaving his role as head coach of the Algerian national team. The 49-year-old is no stranger to the Gulf nation’s top flight, having secured four league titles, two Emir Cups, and a Qatar Cup with Duhail (previously known as Lekhwiya SC) between 2010–2012 and 2015–2018.
Belmadi is notable for leading Algeria to victory at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Al Duhail parted ways with former Nice and PSG coach Christophe Galtier after failing to win the league title. Belmadi now has a good opportunity to relaunch his coaching career with a club he knows well.
Al Duhail also parted ways with Kenyan star striker Michael Olunga and Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech a week earlier.
