Down 0-1 after halftime after struggling against an inspired underdog, the Malian slickly received a pass at the corner of the penalty area and turned past his defender. Getting to the end line, Nene chopped a low pass back for Marco Asensio to level the match in the 52nd minute.
Brazilian playmaker Talisca completed the victory for the hosts with goals in the 69th and 78th minutes. The result came after coach Domenico Tedesco, disgusted with his team’s first half effort, made four substitutes at halftime.
Fener move into third place in Group C with the result, one point behind group leaders and rivals Beşiktaş. They will finish up group stage play on March 4 against Gaziantep, where a victory will guarantee their place in the knockout stages.
Nene now has goal contributions in three of his last four matches, bringing his totals to 4 goals and 5 assists in 26 matches from all competitions in his first season with the club.
