After ten straight Austian Bundesliga titles, Red Bull Salzburg are in danger of failing to win Austria's top flight for a second consecutive season. But Mali national team forward Dorgeles Nene scored twice on Sunday to move Red Bull into second place with a 3-1 victory at Austria Wien.
The 22-year-old arrived at the far post in the 11th minute to fire in a perfect volley from Aleksa Terzic's cross, doubling the lead for the visitors only a few minutes after Terzic set up Yorbe Vertessen for the opening goal.
Red Bull took further control after taking a 2-1 lead into halftime and it was Nene who controversially extended the advantage. After the hour mark, he appeared to trip on his own leg as he pursued a ball in the Austria Wien penalty area but the referee awarded a penalty kick in his favor.
Nene sent the goalkeeper the wrong way for his 8th league goal and 10th in all competitions. Red Bull move past Austria Wien into second position but remain five points back of leaders Strum Graz who also won over the weekend. Die Roten Bullen will continue in the Championship Group with the first of back-to-back fixtures against Wolfsberger AC on Wednesday.
