Douglas Owusu scores in Red Star’s comeback win over Radnik

Ghanaian youngster Douglas Owusu posted another high class performance for Red Star during their comeback win over his former club, FK Radnik Surdulica in the Serbian Super Liga on Sunday.

Radnik sent the home fans into raptures when Red Star midfielder, Timi Max Elsnik mistakenly put the ball in his own net in the 23rd minute.

Red Star however changed the complexion of the game 21 minutes later when Serbian Aleksandar Katai leveled the score line.

Owusu has scored two goals in 8 games

Owusu proved decisive in the encounter, netting the winning goal and his second of the season just before halftime after latching onto a well-weighted pass from Bosnia international Rade Krunic.

Owusu’s strike moments later completed the turnaround, ensuring Dejan Stankovic’s men went into the second half with momentum and control.

The match also featured two other Ghanaian players, as Sadick Abubakar and Emmanuel Quarshie both made appearances for Radnik Surdulica, putting in solid shifts despite ending on the losing side.

Owusu, who joined Red Star from Radnik during the January transfer window, is steadily growing in confidence and influence.

The 19-year-old has now scored two goals in eight appearances for Red Star this season.

Owusu signed for Radniki from Ghana second Division side Asekem, producing 9 goals and 10 assists in 54 matches for the club over one and a half seasons.

He was instrumental in helping Radnik achieve promotion to the top flight last season.

Red Star lead the league table with 72 points, 13 above second club Vojvodina after 29 matches.
