DR Congo names 36-man provisional squad for 2024 CHAN

Two-time African Nations Championship (CHAN) winners DR Congo have named a provisional list of 36 players selected by coach Otis Ngoma Kondi. The local Leopards are drawn in Group A alongside hosts Kenya, two-time champions Morocco, Angola, and Zambia.

Kondi’s charges have started preparations in Kinshasa and they will continue to camp in the Congolese capital until Sunday, July 20. The Congolese Association Football Federation (FECOFA) confirmed that the national side will continue preparations in Algeria after next week. Kondi is expected to trim the squad after the Kinshasa camp before the national side heads to North Africa.

Kondi included players from Congolese Linafoot champions Aigles du Congo, AS Maniema Union, giants TP Mazembe and FC Lupopo. DR Congo U-23 national team attacker Tonny Talasi has also received a call-up.

DR Congo won CHAN in 2009 and 2016. The local national side has traditionally been strong in CHAN, thanks to the dominance of TP Mazembe in African club football. However, recent slip-ups by the Lubumbashi-based club and the poor performance of AS Vita Club have significantly affected the results of the local national team in recent CHAN outings. Kondi hopes to change this narrative at the 2024 CHAN.
