Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba believes his team’s impressive start to the 2025/26 season puts them in a strong position to challenge for the Betway Premiership title.
After several seasons of underperforming, which included two consecutive finishes outside the top eight, Chiefs have shown significant improvement. They remain undefeated after five league matches, with four wins and a draw. The team secured victories against Stellenbosch FC, Polokwane City FC, Richards Bay FC, and Golden Arrows, and earned a crucial draw against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs, along with Sekhukhune United and Sundowns, are the only three clubs that have yet to lose a match this season. Impressively, the Soweto giants are the only team in the league with a perfect defensive record, having not conceded a single goal in their first five matches.
This strong start has revitalized the belief among supporters that the team can end its long trophy drought, which dates back to the 2014/15 season.
Duba is confident that the club has a realistic chance of lifting the league trophy.
“I think we’ve started the season very well, better than all other seasons,” Duba said. “This season we are stronger, we understand the coach [Nasreddine Nabi], and I think we’ll win more games.”
“We always start every season wanting to win the league, and this season we started very good. There are high hopes; we believe in ourselves more than any other season,” he added.
To further bolster their chances, the 2025 Nedbank Cup champions have been active in the transfer market, bringing in several key players. New signings include Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Flavio Silva.
The team is also set to participate in the CAF Confederations Cup this season.
