Durban City FC deserved victory against Golden Arrows – Hunt

Durban City FC’s coach Gavin Hunt insists his team deserved to win Tuesday’s Betway Premiership game against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

The Durban-based teams shared the spoils at Chatsworth Stadium, a result that ended the rookies’ two-game winning run, leaving Hunt frustrated.

“You look at the whole course of the game, I think we deserved to win. [It was a] good and honest performance. I cannot question them [the players]. They are getting better. They will get better. We keep moving,” the former SuperSport United mentor said.

City scored the opener after Haashim Domingo’s free kick was deflected into an own net by Arrows’ Jerome Karelse, a moment the coach thought swung the game in their favour but his team did not make the most of it.

“Disappointed not to win the game. I thought there was no danger in the first half. We had some good opportunities and we went one-nil up then one bad error on the edge of the box and they got back in the game,” Hunt added.

However, Arrows responded through Ivorian striker Junior Dion’s clever flick past Darren Keet minutes before the half-time break.

The newcomers should be hoping for a return to winning ways when they face Polokwane City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on August 26, 2025.

“We will get better. There is a good fight, there is a good mentality and that is all we can ask for,” the ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach said.

City now have seven points from three games, two points behind joint leaders Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United. Arrows lie in seventh place with four points.
