Durban City make big decision on Pirates’ match

South African Premier Soccer League side Durban City FC have made a big decision regarding their forthcoming fixture against Orlando Pirates.

The Betway Premiership rookies welcome the Buccaneers right after the international break. Usually, Gavin Hunt’s men host teams at their Durban venue of Chatsworth Stadium.

However, when it comes to high-profile match venues, City move to bigger stadiums hoping to make the most of the occasion.

It was this reason that City faced Kaizer Chiefs at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Stadium on October 31 2025. The newcomers lost the league match 1-0. Despite the defeat, club chairperson Farook Kadodia said he was encouraged by the massive turnout in the match against AmaKhosi hence he wants the same for the meeting with Buccaneers.

Why Durban City want to welcome Pirates away from home

Kadodia, therefore, has announced that they have resolved to welcome Pirates at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 29 November 2025. Kick-off is at 15:30.

The club chairperson said they made the decision to move the encounter to the World Cup venue following the success of the Chiefs’ game.

“After the incredible spectacle we witnessed last month, with the stadium packed to capacity and roaring with passion, there was no question about where we should host this fixture. Our fans deserve nothing less,” Kadodia told City website.

“Moses Mabhida is an iconic landmark, not just for Durban, but for South African football. Staging this match there is a commitment to our supporters, giving many more of our faithful the opportunity to access the match and be part of a grand sporting occasion.”

He added: “We are building a special connection with our community, and we want to ensure that as many people as possible can come together to witness top-flight football in a world-class facility.”
