Dynamic Diomande! Ivorian forward stars again with goal in RB Leipzig draw

Yan Diomande followed up his two-assist performance over the weekend by scoring on Tuesday in RB Leipzig’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw at St. Pauli.

The Ivorian is rediscovering form for his club after playing a major role in Ivory Coast’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where he contributed a goal as the Elephants reached the quarterfinals in Morocco.

It appeared that his 66th minute strike would give Die Roten Bullen the full three points away from home on Tuesday. After a corner kick was cleared to the edge of the St. Pauli penalty area, Diomande unleashed a blast into the top corner that left goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj rooted to his spot.

But the hosts did not go away quietly. In stoppage time, St. Pauli forward Martin Kaars was tripped up in the penalty area and the Dutchman proceeded to convert from the penalty spot to salvage a point for the hosts.

It was a disappointing result in the end for RB Leipzig, who struggled during the wunderkind’s absence and have endured inconsistent form lately. The had lost three of their last five Bundesliga matches before Tuesday’s clash during a crucial period. Recent results have seen the team drop to fourth place on the league table, fourteen points back of league leaders Bayern Munich.

But they do remain firmly in contention to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and their 19-year-old star now has 8 goals and 5 assists in 20 matches between league and cup duties.
