CAFCL: Dynamos will bounce back ‘bigger and better’ – Mutapa

Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa praised his players for their good performance despite suffering a 3-1 CAF Champions League defeat against Pyramids FC of Egypt in their final group fixture on Saturday.

The defeat in Cairo ended Dynamos hopes of reaching the knockout stages. The Kitwe-based side finished third in Group A with seven points, after having played six matches, winning two, drawing one and losing three.

In recognition of the team’s determination and strong performance in the competition, Dynamos earned a place in the world’s top 500 clubs, ranking 472nd in the latest International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) standings.

Dynamos have picked vital lessons

Speaking after the game, Mutapa expressed optimism the Zambian Super League champions will return next season “bigger and better.”

“Our journey has ended but we have learnt a lot of lessons,” Mutapa told reporters in Cairo. “We have learnt a lot and it is enough to give us the confidence for next season.

“We will make sure we return to the stage bigger and better. We now what needs to be done to reach the Round of 16. We will not stop.”

Discussing Pyramids defeat, Mutapa said: “It was a good game, we started off well but we were undone by lack of concentration. Like I just said, we have learnt good lessons from the stage, and it will be vital for us.”

Dynamos midfielder Dominic Chanda and defender Owen Tembo said the campaign exposed them to a higher level of football, adding that they are proud of what the team has achieved.

Dynamos did Zambia proud despite exit

Football of Zambia Association representative and Head of Delegation, Brian Nswana Sakulenga, said Power Dynamos has made the nation proud, commending the discipline shown throughout the team’s outing in Cairo.

Sakulenga advised the team to go back to the drawing board and address a few areas that could help them do better in future CAF Champions League campaigns.

Dynamos will shift focus to the domestic league as the club pushes to return to continental football next season.

The team’s next assignment is an away fixture against NAPSA Stars, to be played on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at REIZ Arena in Lusaka.
