Ebenezer Akinsanmiro reacts to Nigeria AFCON call

Nigerian and Pisa midfielder, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro reflected on his maiden Super Eagles invitation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

​Akinsanmiro was named in coach Eric Chelle’s 28-man squad for the competition after catching the eye of the Malian tactician with his impressive performances in the Italian Serie A this season.

​The 21-year-old, who is on loan to Pisa from fellow Italian side Inter Milan, while speaking with the Super Eagles media, said the invitation came to him as a surprise.

“I was not expecting it to be honest , the first time I was contacted was during the World Cup qualifiers, but I was injured and couldn’t make it.”

He also stated that his inspiration to become a professional footballer came from his father and brothers.

“My daddy inspired me, he was once a footballer, and my two brothers. They were footballers too. I took a lot of interest in the game while watching them play.”

Akinsanmiro was on the books of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, before moving abroad a few years ago.
