Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has said that, every member of the squad must take a share of the blame over the team’s unimpressive performance this season.

There have been accusing fingers directed at Chiefs coach, Nasreddine Nabi over the club’s lackluster display in the Betway Premier League this season. The Tunisian tactician has struggled to put the Amakhosi in a position they used to be as they are currently ninth on the league table with 30 points from 25 matches.

Chiefs risk missing out on the top eight for the second season running and Dove believes the blame must not solely be placed at the doorstep of coach Nabi. The Mozambican international believes everyone should be held accountable for Chiefs’ results.

“In a team, we should all be held accountable because at the end of the day, the coach is there to give us whatever tools, but at the end of the day, we have the responsibility of delivering on the field,” Dove told FARPost.

“So we can’t blame one side [the coach] and leave the other [players] because we’re a group and always talk about unity and being together. If the team loses, we all lose.

“If the team wins, we all win. There are certain things that are not in my power to talk about, but I think we’re all in this boat together. We should continue being together.”

“Nabi is a great coach” who “needs more time to implement” his philosophy. “Now it’s so easy to point fingers and say it’s the coach or the players, but we all need time to put our ideas into place and implement our philosophy.

“I think he has done that quite well and probably just needs a bit more time to work on what he needs to work on with the gents. Hopefully, he can be the person that brings this club to where it belongs.” He added.

The next two fixtures will be crucial as they play Pirates in the Betway Premiership before they meet again in the Nedbank Cup final. The final is set for Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 May, while the Soweto Derby league fixture is billed for Saturday at the FNB Stadium.
