Edo Queens set sights on Federation Cup after Super Six qualification

Having ended the NWFL 2024/25 regular season on a high note, defending Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions, Edo Queens of Benin have shifted their attention to the 2025 President Federation Cup and the upcoming Super six championship showpiece.


Edo Queens who are table toppers in Group A with 35 points from 14 matches, in the recently concluded NWFL regular season are set for a Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, showdown against Osun Babes FC in the round of 16 of the President Federation Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos.


The "Benin Queens" concluded their NWFL premiership campaign decisively defeating Confluence Queens of Lokoja 2-0 in their final match on Wednesday, April 30th, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.


Coach Moses Aduku, Edo Queens who have become a formidable force in the NWFL will be aiming to avoid a repeat of last year's Cup quarter-final exit, where they fell 4-0 to Rivers Angels in Awka Township Stadium Anambra State.


Heading into the tire, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, has urged the team to strive for victory in the Super Six.


"To us in Edo State, the issue of Super Six is a done deal. We are looking beyond Super six and WAFU-B, we want the CAF Women's Champions League trophy to come to Edo State. You have done it before, you have what it takes to do it again. It is important to let us know that the Executive Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, is happy with you all. You are making us proud, so we shouldn't disappoint him. There a lot of incentives waiting for us from the governor.


“Go forth and achieve greatness for yourselves, our State, and Nigeria. We will be in Ikenne, Ogun State, to provide our full support. Rest assured, Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has provided everything necessary for your triumph in this championship. Go there and reaffirm your potential to become champions once more.


“I urge you to go and do exploits for yourselves, for the State and for the country. We will be in Ikenne Ogun State to give you the maximum supports. It is important to let you all know that everything needed for you to excel in this championship has been provided by His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo. So let's go there and prove to them that our potentiality of becoming champions again is unshakable.”


The fixtures for the President Cup Round of sixteen will see Rivers Angels facing First Mahi Babes of Ebonyi in Aba, Remo Ladies clashing with Dannaz Ladies of Lagos in Ibadanl, Delta Queens we battle Ibom Angels in Enugu, Onimarg of Ondo lock horns with Heartland Queens in Benin City, as Osun Babes trade tackles against Edo Queens at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos.


Also, Mighty Jets Mata of Plateau takes on Unification FC of Lagos in Anyigba at 1 pm, Sunshine Queens go stride for stride with fellow NWFL side Confluence Queens in Benin City, and Nasarawa Amazons will going up against the undefeated Bayelsa Queens in Awka.
