EFA Elections: Hany Abou Rida unopposed as nomination closes

The nomination window for the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Board of Directors elections officially closed today, Saturday, at 4:00 PM Egypt Standard Time. The elections are set to take place on December 10, 2024 and will be conducted with a closed list system.


Engineer Hany Abou Rida was the only person to submit the candidacy papers, making him the sole candidate for the EFA presidency.

Who is Hany Abou Rida?


Hany Abou Rida is a prominent figure in both Egyptian and international football administration. He has held prestigious positions including membership in the CAF Executive Committee since 2004 and the FIFA Council since 2009, underscoring his global reputation.


During his tenure as EFA President (2016–2019), Abou Rida spearheaded numerous achievements, such as leading the Egyptian national team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after a 28-year absence. Under his leadership, Egypt also hosted the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which Egypt won to secure qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.


Additionally, he successfully chaired organizing committees for major tournaments including the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, showcasing his ability to execute large-scale sporting events seamlessly.
