The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) and the Ethiopian Premier League Share Company (EPLSC) led the tribute to former Dedebit player Gabriel Ahmed Jetro. The Ghanaian passed away in his home country after a brief illness on Sunday, May 11.

Ahmed played for a host of clubs in Ethiopia over the past 13 years. His sudden passing has plunged the Ethiopian football fraternity into deep sorrow. In an official statement, the EFF said the federation received the news with great shock. The EFF sent condolences to his family and the Ghanaian football community.
The EPLSC, in a separate statement, expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Ahmed. His former clubs—Mekele 70 Enderta, Fasil Kenema, and Hawassa Ketema—also sent their condolences for their former defensive midfielder.
Ahmed won the Ethiopian Premier League twice while plying his trade in the Horn of Africa. He is credited with being the most consistent foreign player to grace the top flight in Ethiopia. He had been actively searching for a new club following the expiration of his contract with the relegated Legetafo Legedadi in July 2024.
