The Egyptian national team has officially revealed details regarding the injuries sustained by left-back Mohamed Hamdy and striker Mostafa Mohamed during the Pharaohs’ opening match against Zimbabwe at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Egypt kicked off their AFCON campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in the first round of Group B matches. The encounter took place at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, as the Pharaohs secured three crucial points at the start of the tournament.

The Egyptian side is competing in Group B alongside South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.

Dr. Mohamed Abou El-Ela, the national team’s physician, provided an update on the players’ medical conditions following examinations. He confirmed that Mohamed Hamdy suffered bruises accompanied by a hematoma in the pelvic bones.

Meanwhile, striker Mostafa Mohamed was diagnosed with an ankle contusion after undergoing medical scans following the Zimbabwe match.
