Egypt secured third place in the Al Ain International Cup after defeating Cape Verde 2–0 on penalties, following a 1–1 draw in regular time.

The match began with an early setback for the Pharaohs, as Cape Verde took the lead inside seven minutes. The referee awarded a penalty, and Garry Rodrigues converted to make it 1–0.

Egypt responded in the 57th minute. Omar Marmoush capitalised on a long pass that split the Cape Verdean defence, racing through on goal before finishing to level the score at 1–1.

As the match approached its final seconds, coach Hossam Hassan made a surprising decision by substituting goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who appeared visibly unhappy by the change. Mostafa Shobeir entered specifically for the penalty shootout—and the move proved decisive.

In the shootout, Marmoush missed Egypt’s opening penalty, but the Pharaohs quickly regained control.

  • Hossam Abdelmaguid converted the second attempt.

  • Mohamed Hamdy scored Egypt’s third.

  • Meanwhile, Mostafa Shobeir produced a heroic performance, saving Cape Verde’s second and third penalties while Cape Verde missed the first one.

With Egypt leading 2–0 after three rounds, Cape Verde missed the fourth attempt, sealing the victory for the Pharaohs and confirming the Pharaohs’ bronze-medal finish in the tournament.
