Zamalek and National Bank were the first teams to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the Egypt Cup after the Round of 16 continued on Friday.

Zamalek advanced to Egypt Cup quarterfinals with a 2-1 extra-time win over Modern Sport.

Zamalek took an early lead in the 5th minute through Nabil Emad Dunga, who capitalized on a goalkeeping error with a header.

However, Modern Sport responded in the 52nd minute when Tunisian Moataz Zemzemi equalized with a header of his own.

With the game extending into extra time, Zamalek’s legendary captain Shikabala stepped up in the 106th minute, slotting home a low cross from Zizo to seal the win.

This goal marked Shikabala’s 74th strike for Zamalek, bringing him level with Gamal Hamza as the club’s eighth all-time top scorer.

With this victory, Zamalek moves on to the quarterfinals, where they will face Smouha, who defeated Zed 1-0 previously in the same round.

Next up for Zamalek is a Cairo Derby against Al Ahly in the opening round of the title-deciding stage of the Nile Egyptian League on Tuesday, March 11.

In the other match on Friday, National Bank were well in control to end Al Masry's two-match winning streak in a 3-1 result. Osama Faisal and Yaw Annor each scored within a five-minute span to put hosts National Bank ahead 2-0 by halftime. The teams exchanged goals in second half stoppage time to leave National Bank as the winners.

The other two remaining Round of 16 matches will take place on Saturday with Ghazl El Mahalla facing Pharco while current Egyptian Premier League leaders and defending Egypt Cup champions Pyramids FC host second tier side Arab Contractors.

So far, six teams have booked their places in the Egypt Cup quarterfinals: Ceramica Cleopatra, El Gouna, ENPPI, Smouha, Zamalek, and National Bank.

Two quarterfinal matches are set with Zamalek set to face Smouha on Tuesday while Ceramic Cleopatra host El Gouna next Thursday.
