The Egypt Cup continued on with the first round from the 2025-26 edition and there were no upsets to eliminate clubs from the top flight Nile League. On Thursday, El Gouna completed the week of fixtures by edging second tier side Asyut Petroleum.
Two goals early in the second half were enough for El Gouna to qualify for the Round of 16. Earlier in the week on Monday, Talea’a El Gaish advanced and Haras El Hodoud qualified for the Round of 16 with a 3-1 extra time victory over El Ismaily. Former Al Ahly and Egypt national team forward Amr Gamal scored the match winner in the 94th minute for Haras El Hodoud.
Over last weekend and the end of last week, it was a difficult round for second tier and lower division clubs. The closest any team came to an upset was lower tier side Port Fouad SC, who held National Bank of Egypt to a 0-0 draw through ninety minutes before the Nile League side escaped by scoring four goals in extra time for a 4-1 victory.
Burkina Faso international defender Saidou Simpore scored a hat-trick during the extra time session for National Bank.
ENPPI, Pharco FC, Kahraba Ismailia, Petrojet and Smouha all advanced as well to complete half of the Round of 16 field. Egypt’s top clubs including Al Ahly, Pyramids FC and reigning Egypt Cup champions Zamalek will play their Round of 32 matches in the new year with the dates of fixtures yet to be announced.
