Egypt team doctor reveals Omar Marmoush injury details after Burkina Faso clash

Egypt national team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela has confirmed the nature of the injury sustained by forward Omar Marmoush during the goalless draw against Burkina Faso in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.

Speaking after the match, Abou El-Ela revealed that Marmoush suffered a knee ligament contusion following a heavy challenge in the early minutes of the game. The Manchester City player initially tried to continue but collapsed again shortly after, forcing head coach Hossam Hassan into an early substitution, with Osama Faisal coming on in the 7th minute.

The team doctor added that Marmoush will undergo medical scans upon Egypt’s return to Cairo on Wednesday morning to assess the full extent of the injury.

The incident occurred in the 6th minute of the match at the Stade du 4 Août, cutting short Marmoush’s contribution in a fixture that ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw.
