Egypt U-17 national team kicked off their journey in the Gulf U-20 Cup, hosted in Abha, Saudi Arabia, with a 2-0 defeat to Oman on Friday evening in the opening round of the group stage.
The result leaves the young Pharaohs empty-handed after their first match, complicating their path in Group B, which also includes Iraq and Bahrain.
Egypt still has two tough fixtures ahead — against Iraq and Bahrain — as they look to bounce back, recover from the setback, and revive their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Group A features hosts Saudi Arabia alongside Qatar, Kuwait, and Yemen, in what promises to be a competitive race for the knockout stage.
The Egyptian U-17s are led by coach Ahmed El-Kass, with the team also preparing for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup. The tournament will be staged in Qatar from 3 to 27 November 2025, marking the first edition with 48 participating nations, making it the largest in the history of the competition.
