Spanish media reports have revealed that the upcoming international friendly between Egypt national football team and Spain national football team, scheduled for March in Qatar, has been postponed amid regional tensions.
The Qatar Football Association officially announced the suspension of all tournaments, competitions, and matches starting immediately and until further notice. New dates for the resumption of activities will be confirmed at a later stage.
The decision comes in light of ongoing political developments in the Middle East, which have directly affected sporting events planned in the region.
Qatar was set to host a major football festival in March, including several high-profile friendlies. Among them was the anticipated Finalissima clash between Argentina national football team, champions of South America, and Spain national football team, European champions, on March 27.
Egypt were due to face Saudi Arabia national football team on March 26 at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, before taking on Spain in a high-profile encounter on March 30 at Lusail Stadium.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, both the Spanish and Argentine federations are awaiting further clarification before making a final decision regarding their March fixtures. The international window at the end of March represents the last available opportunity for national teams to play friendlies before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
