Egyptian League Cup: Wadi Degla and Petrojet secure quarterfinal 1st leg victories

The Petrosport Stadium in Cairo played host to the first two matches from the Egyptian League Cup (a.k.a. Capital Cup) quarterfinals on Wednesday, where Wadi Degla and Petrojet emerged with victories from the first legs.

In the opening match of the day, Wadi Degla got off to a perfect start by scoring two goals inside the opening twenty minutes in a 3-1 first leg victory over Tala’ea El Gaish.

Ahmed El Shimi finished from a cross by Ziad Anwar “Zizo” to make it 1-0 inside two minutes before Youssef Oya finished in the 19th minute after intercepting a poor pass from El Gaish goalkeeper Emad El Sayed.

Mohamed Hany pulled a goal back from the penalty spot early in the second half but Franck Boli added one more goal late on to give Wadi Degla a two-goal advantage ahead of the second leg.

In the later match, venue hosts Petrojet overcame ENPPI with a narrow 1-0 victory. In an even match, it was a moment of panic in the ENPPI defense that allowed Senegalese forward Sekou Sonko to score the only goal of the match in the 17th minute.

Tomorrow, the other two quarterfinal clashes will kick off with the first legs as El Gouna face Al Masry before ZED FC duel with Arab Contractors.

The second legs of Wednesday’s duels will take place on March 28 (Saturday).
