Zamalek fell far short of expectations this season but the Cairo giants ended their 2024-25 season with a 2-0 victory on Saturday over Pharco to complete the Egyptian Nile League campaign.
Mohamed Shehata's spectacular long range shot gave the hosts the lead in the first half before club legend Shikabala set up Mohamed El Sayed for his first professional goal in the second half.
It is a bright spot for The White Castle in an otherwise disappointing season. Zamalek finished in third place and were forced to watch as eternal rivals Al Ahly clinched the Nile League title, also finishing behind runners-up Pyramids. Zamalek also fell short in the CAF Confederation Cup with a surprise quarterfinal defeat to South Africa's Stellenbosch.
Zamalek supporters also had to endure a fallout between star playmaker Zizo and Zamalek management which resulted in the Egypt national team attacker's departure to Al Ahly, something that played a major role in their Confederation Cup defeat. However, the club will be able to rebuild their squad in the offseason and they have qualified for next season's Confederation Cup.
