Egyptian prospect Kareem Ahmed signs professional contract with Liverpool

Egyptian youngster Kareem Ahmed has signed his first professional contract with Premier League champions Liverpool FC.

A statement on the club’s official website announced; “The 18-year-old has been at the Academy since the age of six and made an instant impact on his U18s debut in December 2022 by scoring in an FA Youth Cup tie at AFC Bournemouth.

“Ahmed can feature as a forward or attacking midfielder, where his creativity can help unlock opposing defences. Representing the U18s group last season, he finished the term with seven goals and five assists, having also made appearances in the UEFA Youth League against Bologna and RB Leipzig.

“Ahmed will spend the 2025-26 campaign with the U21s, led by new head coach Rob Page, after stepping up a level.”

Born in England to Egyptian parents, Ahmed’s performances for a local amateur side caught the attention of Premier League sides Everton, Manchester City and Liverpool. He accepted an offer from the latter, stating that his decision was influenced by the fact that his idol, Mohamed Salah, played for Liverpool.

He joined Liverpool’s academy, and would mark his debut for the U-18 team with a goal against Bournemouth in the FA Youth Cup – bundling the ball into the net after teammate Wellity Lucky’s header was initially saved.

In February 2022, Ahmed was called up to training camps with the Egyptian youth team.
