Seifeddine Jaziri fired Zamalek SC into the final of the Egyptian Super Cup where they will face eternal rivals Al Ahly after defeating Pyramids FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
The Tunisian striker, who came on as a substitute at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, produced a decisive spot kick to make the difference against African club champions Pyramids after a 0-0 draw through ninety minutes. Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Awad saved Mostafa Ziko’s attempt before Jaziri converted his penalty for the victory.
It was hard luck for Pyramids, who will feel that they were the more dangerous team with more opportunities. The big spenders from Cairo had a brilliant chance to win the match late on but high-priced Brazilian acquisition Ewerthon fired his volley over from close range.
However, it is Zamalek who will look to end four years of Al Ahly dominance in the Super Cup when the teams meet for the final. Pyramids will attempt to claim third place when they meet Ceramica Cleopatra, who fell to Al Ahly earlier on Thursday. Both matches will take place on Sunday.
