Zamalek defender Mahmoud Hamdy “El-Wensh” has issued an apology to the club’s supporters following his red card in the team’s recent 2-1 defeat to Wadi Degla in the Nile Egyptian League.
In a message on his official Facebook account, El-Wensh acknowledged responsibility for the loss and expressed regret for his actions on the pitch.
“First of all, I thank God for my return to representing the Egyptian national team after a very difficult period in my life. I am grateful to God and to all the people who stood by me during those hard times,” he wrote. “Wearing the national team jersey in any form is a great honor for anyone carrying Egypt’s name.”
Addressing Zamalek fans directly, El-Wensh continued: “In the last match, I was a major reason why the team suffered a negative result. It was a mistake that I still cannot forgive myself for, because it is not in my nature to reach that level of recklessness. But it was God’s will, and I fully accept the heavy punishment imposed on me by the club.”
The defender concluded with a vow to learn from his error: “I promise this mistake will never happen again. With your support, I will continue to give everything for this great club. An apology was necessary, and I ask for your forgiveness. Thank you.”
El-Wensh is currently with Egypt’s second national team squad in the September training camp as preparations continue for the upcoming Arab Cup which will be held in Qatar from 1 to 18 December.
