Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Antwi has said that his debut campaign with the Porcupine Warriors was far from impressive this past season due to injuries.

Antwi signed for the record Ghana Premier League holders in 2024 on a free transfer after a glittering outing with capital based club Great Olympics. His first term with the two-time African champions was however chequred by injuries limiting his impact for the remainder of the season.

Antwi, whose performance earned him a debut senior national team call up, spoke to Asante Kotoko media.

“It was a great start for me. After my call-up to the Black Stars, I had issues with injuries, personal issues,” Antwi said.

“I would say it was a great start, but going forward, I came down due to the injuries and what I was going through as well. I would say it was 50/50.”

The 23-year-old managed fifteen starts and nine substitute appearances in total, but missed a chunk of the season due to his fitness struggles.

Antwi is now aiming to finish on a high as Kotoko prepare for the MTN FA Cup final against Golden Kicks. Speaking to the club’s media team, Antwi said the team had high expectations for the campaign but must now settle for the FA Cup.

“We, the players, are a bit disappointed in ourselves,” he admitted. “We had set a target to win both the league and the FA Cup, so not winning the league is disappointing. We have one more game to make it up to the supporters,” he added.

Asante Kotoko will face Division One club Golden Kicks in the final of the FA Cup at the Legon Sports Stadium on June 15.
