End of an era: KCCA FC and captain Julius Poloto part ways

KCCA FC has officially confirmed the mutual termination of their contract with long-serving captain Julius Poloto, drawing the curtain on a remarkable journey that spanned nearly a decade.

Poloto’s bond with the Lugogo-based side dates back to 2015 when he joined the KCCA FC Soccer Academy as a young prospect. Groomed in the club’s philosophy and values, he steadily rose through the ranks, earning promotion to the senior team under then-head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi. His tireless creativity, leadership, and elegant style of play quickly made him a fan favorite.

In August 2019, Poloto was entrusted with the full captaincy, a testament to his influence both on and off the pitch. Under his leadership, KCCA FC enjoyed a golden era, clinching Uganda Premier League titles in 2017 and 2019, as well as Uganda Cups in 2017 and 2018.

One of his most iconic moments came in the 2018 Uganda Cup final against Vipers SC, when he netted the decisive goal that delivered KCCA FC’s record 10th Cup triumph—a memory forever etched in the hearts of fans.

Poloto’s consistency also earned him recognition on the national stage. He represented Uganda at U17, U20, and U23 levels before making appearances for the senior Uganda Cranes team.

Beyond the trophies and accolades, Poloto stood as a bridge between the academy and the first team, embodying loyalty and commitment at a time when football careers are often fleeting. For many aspiring youngsters, he was a role model and proof that hard work and dedication at the academy could lead to greatness in the senior side.

As the chapter closes, the club and its supporters bid him farewell with deep gratitude. Though he departs as a player, his legacy as one of KCCA FC’s most loyal sons endures.
