Enyimba head coach Stanley Eguma has admitted to being worried with their position in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) despite grinding out a 1-0 away win against Lobi Stars on Monday.
In the fixture at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Ifeanyi Anthony Ihemekwele scored the only goal in the 44th minute to hand Enyimba their seventh victory of the campaign.
However, the win did little as they remained eighth on the 20-team league table with 31 points from 21 matches. They have managed seven wins, 10 draws and suffered four defeats.
Enyimba are currently 14 points behind leaders Remo Stars, who have garnered 45 points from 22 outings, while second-placed Shooting Stars have accumulated 37 points from 21 matches.
“It’s a good performance and a good result. We drew at home, and now we’ve won away,” said Eguma after the Lobi Stars game.
“I joined this team recently, and the players are gradually understanding my philosophy, just as I am getting to know them better. This growing understanding is the reason we got this result.
“We’re gradually putting our first-round struggles behind us, but we’re still worried about our position in the league table. Our focus is to improve our standing.
“It’s still a work in progress, and it’s not yet time for celebration because we have a lot to do to climb the table. I congratulate the players for their efforts and encourage them to do more so we can achieve better results in the coming matches.”
Enyimba will next face Akwa United, who are rooted at the bottom of the table, at Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday, February 9.
