Chehab Jebali, winger of Espérance Sportive de Tunis, admitted he was unaware of his side’s upcoming showdown against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League, stressing that the team’s full concentration was on domestic competition.
Esperance secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over AS Soliman on Tuesday at the Stade Olympique de Soliman, in Round 19 of the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.
Speaking to Tunisian outlet Foot 24 after the match, Jebali appeared unaware when informed about the continental clash.
“This is the first time I’m hearing that from you,” Jebali said. “Our focus was only on the match only.”
When asked about his opinion about meeting the Egyptian giants, he responded briefly: “Welcome… welcome.”
The draw for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League produced a heavyweight encounter between Al Ahly and Esperance. The first leg is set to take place at Stade Hammadi Agrebi in Rades, while the return leg will be played at Cairo International Stadium.
The winner on aggregate between Al Ahly and Esperance will advance to the semi-finals, where they will meet the winner of the tie between Mamelodi Sundowns and Stade Malien.
