Eswatini: Highlanders AM hire coach Mosala

Struggling Eswatini MTN Premier League giants Mbabane Highlanders AM FC have hired Selaotse Mosala as the head coach.

The South African has filled the void created by Ernesst Mavuso’s resignation on Monday following a string of defeats for the club that is affectionately called Ezimnyama Ngenkani.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Highlanders AM confirmed Mosala’s return to the MTN Premier League club he managed in 2022, subject to the issuance of his work permit.

“Mbabane Highlanders AM appoints Selaotse Mosala as Head Coach until the end of the season. A familiar face with unfinished business, his previous tenure guided The Black Bull to continental qualification,” reads part of the statement.

“He has been introduced to the squad and will assume full duties once his work permit is approved.”

Why Mavuso resigned from Highlanders AM

After going winless in three straight matches, Mavuso resigned on Monday admitting that he did not perform as expected in the Eswatini MTN Premier League.

South African football administrator Shawn Mkhize, formerly in charge of South Africa’s Royal AM, owns Highlanders AM.

Mkhize became the majority shareholder of the Eswatini side last July after South Africa’s elite league governing body expelled her Royal AM from the flagship Betway Premiership over financial problems which saw curators handling the then Durban-based club’s affairs.

Highlanders AM occupy position 10 in league

Royal AM were put under curatorship after the South African Revenue Service took Mkhize to task over outstanding taxes.

To her credit, she did not give up on football but crossed the South African borders to invest in the club that is also called Ezimnyama Ngenkani or Black Bull. The start to life in Eswatini seemed fine but now all seems unwell evidenced by the resignation of the coach.

Highlanders AM occupy position 10 in the log table with nine points from eight games, nine points behind leaders and holders Nsingizini Hotspurs. The Black Bull are the 13-time Eswatini Premier League champions.
