AmaZulu FC midfielder Ethan Brooks has set sight on making a return to the senior men’s team, Bafana Bafana, having been put at the backburner for some time now.
Coach Hugo Broos steered Bafana Bafana to third-place at the last AFCON in Ivory Coast in 2024 and have already booked qualification for the next edition set for Morocco later this year.
The impressive performance has whetted the appetite of many young players to want to feature for the rainbow nation. Ethan Brooks, 23, has expressed his desire to make a return to the Bafana squad having played under coach Hugo Broos’s team throughout 2021 and into 2022.
“Yeah, it’s one of my goals to get back to the national team, work hard to get into the team,” said Brooks. “Obviously, it won’t be easy, but I’d say it’s one of my objectives to get back into the team.
“I think I started the season well, but obviously I haven’t been playing regularly, but whenever I was given an opportunity, I did well,” he continued.
Brooks managed 24 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist for AmaZulu. South Africa are currently considered favourites in their group to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the USA.
