Some club members elected a new board that comprises chairman Abenet Gebremeskel, but the move was opposed by other members, who threatened to take the matter to a civil court in Addis Ababa. A court document seen by Pan-Africa Football suggests that club members named Musse Alem, Gossaye Negash, and Ahmed Endris have sued the new board for breaching the club’s regulations during the elective general assembly. The controversial election was held in Addis Ababa a few weeks ago, with many supporters opposing the decision.

The court has decided that the two parties should settle the matter amicably. However, if they fail to do so, the court will proceed with a hearing. Until the court case ends, the new board has been barred from making decisions on club matters. The court’s decision is expected to negatively impact the new board until the case is settled.

The controversial general assembly helped Gebremeskel and his supporters secure positions on the board for the next four years. Saint George will now be a battleground for the two parties.
