The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) have officially stated that they are allowing fans to attend Ethiopian Cup games. The cup games were at first scheduled to be played behind closed doors.

Cup fixtures kicked off earlier today at the Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium in Addis Ababa. On Thursday the EFF said fans are prohibited from attending the games. Nevertheless they reversed their decision on Friday morning. The federation failed to disclose why they changed their earlier decision.

EFF on Thursday stated they are prohibiting fans in fear of fans violence. The Ethiopian Cup final between Ethiopian Coffee and Wolayta Dicha in June 2024 saw scenes of fan violence following a controversial penalty awarded in extra time for Coffee.

EFF further notified clubs they should advise their respective fans on the consequences of violent conduct. It has also said that punishments will be severe.

In a Round of 32 game, Ethiopian Premier League side Wolwalo Adigrat University were knocked out of the competition after suffering a 3-0 defeat in a penalty kick shootout at the hands of second division side Sululta Subcity.
