The Ethiopia national team now has a new fitness coach ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against giants Egypt and lowly ranked Djibouti. USA-based personal trainer Nigus Solomon has assumed the role as a fitness coach of the Waliyas.

Ethiopia coach Mesay Teferi now has an experienced fitness coach joining his staff. The team previously had no fitness coach after former trainer Gebremedhin Haile refused to include one. Haile reportedly also refused the help of a video analyst, a decision that drew condemnation from supporters.

Solomon is a well known figure on social media platform TikTok. Pan-Africa Football understands he commenced his work last Thursday as he led the fitness routine of the team. He previously worked with Jamaica and Aston Villa star Leon Bailey, Everton midfielder Orel Mangala and US women's national team and Chelsea star Naomi Girma.

Teferi hopes Solomon's inclusion will bring a positive impact on the Waliyas as they search for their first win in the ongoing World Cup qualification campaign. Ethiopia has three draws and one defeat in four matches.
