The Ethiopian national team has a new assistant coach after the exit of Temesgen Dana. The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) revealed that head coach Mesay Teferi named Degu Dubamo as his new assistant ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifier encounters in September 2025.
Dana had been working as an assistant coach to Teferi for the past few months. The former Ethiopian U17 national team and Ethiopian Coffee head coach is now the new trainer of league side Hawassa Ketema. Teferi took no time to appoint a new assistant before the Waliyas kicked off their World Cup qualifier preparations in Adama, 42 km away from Addis Ababa.
EFF Secretary General Bahiru Tilahun previously stated that the federation wouldn’t allow coaches to handle both the national side and clubs simultaneously. Dubamo is no stranger to Ethiopian football. The former player promoted Hambericho Durame to their first-ever Ethiopian Premier League appearance in the 2023/24 season. Dubamo has been working as assistant coach of Ethio Electric in the 2024/25 league season. He is expected to leave his post at the Addis Ababa outfit so that he can take on his new role.
