The Ethiopian Sports Journalists' Association has sent a formal request to the Ethiopian Premier League Share Company (EPLSC) regarding the alleged involvement of journalists in player transfers. The Association stated that it delayed seeking clarification from the league, hoping the issue would be resolved quickly.

EPLSC board chairman Lieutenant Fekade Mamo revealed in February that an investigation into three unnamed journalists was ongoing. The names of the journalists were not disclosed, while many journalists demanded clarification following the announcement.
Now, the Association's president, Niway Yimer, says the announcement has created a significant psychological burden and defamed journalists. The Association has urged the EPLSC to name individuals if journalists are found to have participated in illicit third-party payments during the summer transfer window. It also stated that it expects a response from the league in due course.
The EPLSC financial task force has been actively investigating clubs and players in connection with illicit third-party payments during the summer transfer window.
