Ethiopian Coffee and Adama Ketema recorded crucial victories as the Ethiopian Premier League commenced with Week 29 in Hawassa. Top-flight matches returned to the Hawassa University Stadium after the pitch dried up for better playing conditions.
Adama Ketema secured a vital 1-0 victory over Saint George, with the decisive goal coming just before halftime courtesy of Sintayehu Mengistu. His superb volley proved enough to earn Adama their first league win in eight matches. The result ended a three-game winning streak for the Horsemen.
Adama Ketema are still in the drop zone but now sit just three points adrift of safety. They occupy 16th place with 26 points. The record Ethiopian champions are sixth with 40 points.
Ethiopian Coffee reclaimed second spot with a 1-0 win against Wolayta Dicha. Ghanaian striker Hafiz Konkoni headed home at the start of the second half to score the only goal of the match. The Browns were hit with a major blow following the injury of star striker Anteneh Tefera, who left the stadium to seek better treatment after being forced off in the 12th minute.
Ethiopian Coffee are second in the table with 48 points while Wolayta Dicha remain fourth with 41 points.
