Ethiopian Cup: Saint George and Fasil bow out

Giants Saint George and Fasil Kenema were dumped out of the Ethiopian Cup Round of 32 after losing to Hawassa Ketema and Ethiopia Insurance respectively. The games were played out in Addis Ababa at the Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium with some fans attending the encounters.

Saint George rallied back from behind to equalize against Hawassa Ketema but lost in a penalty shootout. Abenezer Yohannes gave the Lakers the lead but the Horsemen found the leveler through Ashenafi Getachew three minutes before time. Hawassa won the game 5-4 in the ensuing penalty shootout.

Goals from Dawit Teferra and Mohammed Abera handed Ethiopian Insurance a well deserved 2-0 win over Fasil Kenema.

Saint George last won the Ethiopian Cup in 2016 and they are finding it tough to reach the final in the subsequent years. 2019 Ethiopian Cup champions Fasil Kenema continued their inconsistent form.

In other matches Diredawa Ketema, Wolayta Dicha, Sheger Ketema and Sululta SubCity are the teams that managed to progress to the third round of the knockout tournament.
